UAW 4811 Statement on California Budget

When California’s 2025-26 budget was originally forecast, it included a nearly 8% reduction to the University of California’s funding. By working with lawmakers in Sacramento, UC academic workers have helped close the budget gap from 8% to 3% and secured a commitment to closing it completely by July 2026.

UAW 4811 members have fought to bring much-needed stability to the university’s finances at a moment when the federal government is threatening funding for higher ed nationwide. We will continue working with lawmakers to ensure that they follow through on their funding commitment in the next fiscal year and to expand public support for the critical mission of UC.

UAW members teach, grade, mentor, perform cutting-edge research in labs across campus, tutor, and more. We are committed to delivering the educational and research outcomes that Californians deserve, and look forward to negotiating a contract with UC that recognizes our contributions to the university’s mission and ensures that excellence remains the standard.
