Transitional Position Program

In 2026 ASEs and GSRs won a permanent expansion to the 2024 Transitional Funding Pilot Program. This program allows for workers at every campus to apply for a transitional funding appointment for a quarter or semester in case of a severe conflict with, or complete abandonment by, their PI. Each campus will provide up to 10 transitional positions per year.

To apply for a Transitional Position, you must first meet the following criteria:

  1. Be in good employment standing, including conduct and performance

  2. Be dependent on their Principal Investigator for employment

  3. Have been with their Principal Investigator for at least three quarters, two semesters, or the equivalent amount of time

  4. Make a clear argument, corroborated by the department, that:

    1. There is an irreparable employment-related conflict in the supervisor-supervisee relationship and that the supervisor relationship is beyond repair for reasons outside of the employee’s control; or

    2. The employee’s PI left the University

  5. Have not previously received a transitional position
