Joint statement from UAW Locals 4811, 872, and 2478 on U.S. attacks on Iran

The Trump Administration’s unprovoked attack on Iran is a disaster for working people everywhere. Attacks by the US and Israel have already killed civilians across the country, including more than 80 children at a girls’ elementary school in Minab. Working people in the U.S. do not want another illegal regime change war; the U.S. military should not determine how Iran is governed. Our representatives in Congress must find the political will to restrain the White House before more lives are lost.

Over the past year, the White House has repeatedly chosen military aggression over the public good. It has attempted to slash funding for education and lifesaving biomedical research, and threatened to cut off federal funding that working-class Americans rely on to survive, all while imposing brutal immigration crackdowns and proposing to increase the military budget by over 50%. It has already attacked Iran once, bombed Caracas, and illegally abducted the head of the Venezuelan government. Until it is brought under control, the White House will continue to destroy lives abroad and impoverish the public at home.

UAW members across the country stand against the Trump administration’s actions. Academic workers at UC, USC, and Caltech call on the California Congressional delegation to do everything in their power to stop Trump’s military intervention abroad.
