The Trump administration is proposing unprecedented cuts to the budgets of federal research agencies. They are refusing to release billions of dollars in research funding that Congress has allocated for fiscal year 2025. And they have attempted to suspend hundreds of millions of dollars in research funding at UCLA alone.

Thousands of academic workers have signed petitions, attended town halls with our elected representatives, and come together for rallies across the country to share our stories about the disaster that these cuts would represent for science and research in this country. Our elected representatives have joined us for town halls. We have lobbied to erase a proposed $400 million cut to UC’s budget.

Our collective action is working:

UC budget funded
NSF and NIH lawsuit victories

See how Trump’s Proposed cuts to the National Institute of Food and Agriculture were significantly drawn back by congress.

There’s more to do—including the $23 billion California Science Bond, which would allow California to fund scientific research using state resources, under state control, and outside the clutches of the Trump Administration. But it’s going to take workers from every California UAW local to win fair elections and unlock our state’s potential to fund public research. Sign up now to join in the effort!
